In this blog, you will learn how to install a Preformed Alignment Tie for Covered Conductors. We have explained the installation in 5 simple steps. While installing, please ensure you use proper tools, procedures, and personal protective equipment to avoid injury.
Safety Precautions
- Disconnect the power supply before installation.
- Use only insulated tools and equipment.
- Follow all applicable medium-voltage standards and safety regulations.
- Confirm proper grounding of the pole and cross-arm assembly.
Required Tools & Equipment
- Preformed Alignment Ties (Appropriate for the Conductor Size and Insulator Type)
- Insulators
- Fixing Assembly (Cross-Arm Bolts, Nuts, And Washers)
- Insulated Tools like Pliers
- Spanner
- And Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Site Inspection
Before starting the installation, please verify that the pole, cross-arm, and mounting structures are in good condition and properly fixed for safe electrical application.
Please note, at Axis Electricals, we offer preformed ties for both polymer and porcelain insulators in different neck diameters. Our ties for polymer come with a 25 mm neck diameter, while for porcelain it has 75 mm neck diameter.

Installation Process
Step 1: Mount the Insulator on the Cross-Arm and secure it to the cross-arm using the bolts, nuts, and washers.
Step 2: Align the insulator in the direction of the running covered conductor to ensure proper orientation. Make sure the insulator is securely attached and stable under mechanical stress.
Step 3: Install the Preformed Alignment Tie. Place the conductor in the insulator groove, and ensure it is seated correctly with no twisting or improper alignment.
Step 4: Position the preformed tie around the conductor and the insulator groove. Rotate it anti-clockwise by passing both the legs under the conductor.
Step 5: Start wrapping the tie from one end, applying even tension as you continue, until it fully secures the covered conductor. Ensure the tie’s legs (also known as end wires) are wrapped securely without sharp bends or loose ends.
Note – Please verify the conductor’s tension according to the design specifications, ensuring proper sag and alignment with the insulator and adjacent spans.
You have successfully installed the Preformed Alignment Tie for the covered conductor.
